The global pandemic has affected many people around the nation in different aspects of their lives. For some, the simple struggle of having adequate shelter for their families is a challenge faced every day. Now that the weather is settling into fall, and with winter rapidly approaching, a place to call home is becoming increasingly dire.
Monday, October 5th kicked off World Habitat Day by the United Nations, a day to recognize that adequate shelter is a basic right for everyone. If you aren’t aware, Habitat for Humanity works closely with the communities in Stark County to ensure everyone has a right to comfortable living conditions. Not only do volunteer workers help build houses, but they also provide affordable used furniture for local residents. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that serves its community through monetary and furniture donations and volunteer service. If you would like to contribute to Habitat for Humanity’s, whether it be by a small donation, or finally getting rid of a piece of furniture you no longer want, you can visit their website at www.habitat.org.
In continuation with the spirit of World Habitat Day, The Stark County Regional Planning Commission is under contract to the Stark County Commissioners to continue the Stark County HOME program for the year 2021. This is a program designed for low-and-moderate work income households to assist with housing rehabilitation, rental housing and/or tenant-based rental assistance. If you or someone you may know are interested in applying to the HOME program, or would like more information, please visit https://www.starkcountyohio.gov/regional-planning.
